Defender Stephane Zubar set to stay with Weymouth next season

WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley has pulled off a huge coup in securing the services of club captain Stephane Zubar for next season.

Molesley announced the news that the powerful defender, who has become a fans’ favourite since arriving last October, will remain at the Bob Lucas Stadium next term.

The news was revealed at the club’s fans’ forum following Weymouth’s 4-0 win over Leamington.

Addressing the Weymouth supporters during the forum, Zubar said: “Thanks for everything, for all you have done for me and my family.

“We need to believe in him (Molesley) and what he wants to do, he is young, he is hungry and he wants to do well.”

Speaking to Echosport after the announcement, Molesley, who “formed a good friendship” with Zubar during their time at AFC Bournemouth, added: “I think it’s no secret that I managed to get Zubes down to the football club this season. I thought it would help the football club.

“He took a little bit of convincing but, when he finally came down, he fell in love with the place and I think, once I said that I was probably going to be here, then he was keen to stay.

“It’s a big coup for the club and I think it shows my intentions as a manager and shows what sort of people I want around me.

“Zubes is certainly one I want around me, I think he’s a leader, he cares, he wants to win and he wants to achieve something.”
