CALVIN Brooks admitted he still has a “point to prove” as a Weymouth player, and is relishing the opportunity to work under a new regime at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Retained by the new management structure of Mark Molesley and Paul Maitland this summer, the former Yeovil Town man admitted there was a good amount of competition for his signature, but was eventually happy with his decision to stay put.

He told Echosport: “In the summer it’s almost like a big game with clubs.

“Some clubs will say this, other players will be saying that, and then you often end up seeing a lot of players just stay at the clubs they are at.
“There were a few clubs in for me.

“I went on holiday and got a few calls and messages while I was away. For a couple of them the distance was a bit of an issue and there were one or two others that were good offers, but I’m happy where I am and I want to achieve something at Weymouth.

“I said last year I wanted to achieve something and, to be honest, I still don’t feel like I have achieved that – that being promotion.

“One of the things I am excited about is that I have got a point to prove and there is going to be a nice big shake up.”

He added: “I have enjoyed playing with the 15 or 16 lads I have been with for two or three years at Weymouth but, at the end of the day, we didn’t achieve what we were supposed to achieve.

“It’s all well and good being friends, and I will stay in contact and stay friends with those lads, but I want to achieve something in football and Weymouth Football Club deserves to achieve something.”

On the new set-up under Molesley, the talented defender added: “I’ve been really impressed in talking to Moles with what he is trying to do and a couple of other lads as well as myself have really bought into it.

“It seems a lot more professional, he has a lot more coaches and there will be a lot more one-to-one work and I am looking forward to it.

“I am really interested to see who he is going to bring in now because I have heard a few names mentioned. If we can get some of them in I will be very impressed.

“It’s a fresh start and it almost is like moving to a new club.”
