New Weymouth signing Callum Buckley is out to impress

CALLUM Buckley is “out to impress” as a Terras’ player next season and is looking forward to continuing his working relationship with boss Mark Molesley.

The former AFC Bournemouth youngster, who penned a one-year contract with Weymouth following his release from the Cherries’ set-up, worked with the Terras’ chief as part of the youth system at the Vitality Stadium.

And, with the familiarity in coaching, coupled with a fresh challenge in the non-League ranks awaiting him, 21-year-old Buckley is looking forward to showcasing what he can do at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

“I am excited to get some games and it’s nice that Moles is there and he knows me,” Buckley told Echosport.

“When I got the call it was good. Obviously my time at Bournemouth was running down and he mentioned to me about coming down (to Weymouth) and it was brilliant for me to have that option.

“I can see the ambition the whole club has. With the players he has already got and the ones he wants to bring in, he sold it to me.”

The defender, who can play at either left-back or left-sided centre-half, also insisted that Weymouth provides a perfect platform for him to continue his development as a player.

“Moles will want to play in a way that will make me feel a bit better, like where I have played at Bournemouth, so it will be a comfortable switch,” he added.

“It’s a brilliant opportunity and I can’t thank him enough for getting me in.

“It’s a great chance to show what I can do regularly but it’s about moving the club forward as well.”

Asked what Weymouth fans can expect to see from him, the youngster, who featured on loan for Aldershot in the National League last term, replied: “I will give everything, I am a very passionate player and I like to win games.

“Coming from Bournemouth, I like to play the ball around and I’m comfortable on the ball as well.

“We all want to do well and I definitely want to impress.”
