WEYMOUTH have announced the signing of goalkeeper Mark Travers from AFC Bournemouth on a long-term loan.

The talented young stopper, previously on the books at Shamrock Rovers and Lucan United, comes to the club as part of the Cherries’ under-21 squad and worked with Terras’ boss Mark Molesley last term.

And with the number one set to get a taste of playing at a senior level, subject to paperwork, manager Molesley is excited to get Travers on board.

He told Echosport: “I think Mark Travers has got a very bright future in the game and I think this is a first step on the ladder to senior football for him.

“I have got high hopes for him and I think he has got all the attributes to go on to big things.

“It will be a good baptism of fire for him in men’s football but he has all the attributes to cope with that and excel for Weymouth.

“He can handle it and it is going to be a good learning curve for him. We are very lucky to have a goalkeeper of this quality because I think he will be playing a lot higher later on his career. I am really pleased to get him on board.”

Travers, who has represented the Republic of Ireland at youth level, signed with the Cherries in July 2016 having impressed during a trial period at the club.

“He has international youth caps and is currently in the Irish under-21s set-up,” Molesley added. “He has all the credentials and just needs to get that experience.

“It works both ways. He gets men’s experience and we get a very talented goalkeeper.”
