Molesley’s delight as Josh Wakefield joins Weymouth

BOSS Mark Molesley confirmed that Josh Wakefield has agreed terms to join the Terras on a one-year deal.

The 23-year-old midfielder started and played more than an hour of Weymouth’s 2-1 defeat to Yeovil Town at the Bob Lucas Stadium tonight.

Wakefield, a former member of the youth set-up at AFC Bournemouth, lists the likes of Torquay, Dorchester, Bristol Rovers and Yeovil as his former loan clubs, as well as brief spells at Aldershot and Poole Town.

And the Terras’ boss believes that, once Wakefield is up to full fitness, he will be a key asset to the side.

Molesley told Echosport: “Josh Wakefield is someone who we are going to bring into the football club.

“He has got a lot of attributes, he is still trying to find his fitness as he hasn’t played for a while, so we are just getting him up to speed.

“He is certainly a player that, once he is up to speed, he will be a real asset to this football club.

“He burst on to the scene at Bournemouth as a youngster and did quite well. He has played League football and, for one reason or another, he has had a couple of clubs and it’s not quite worked out.

“But I think he is at that age now and, on reflection, he probably realises that football is quite a cruel game and I think he is ready to get back on the bike again and forge a good football career for himself.”

Former Dorchester Town man Sam Lanahan and defender Jayden Corbridge also featured on trial for the club against the Glovers.
