BOSS Mark Molesley was happy with his side’s “attitude and work-ethic” during their opening friendly against Yeovil.
Despite falling to a 2-1 defeat against the Glovers at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Tuesday, Molesley, who snapped up midfielder Josh Wakefield on a one-year deal on the night, insisted he could see positive signs from his squad’s display against their arch rivals.
Asked about the performance, the Weymouth manager told Echosport: “I think we learnt a lot. I thought in the limited time that we have been together, the performance was generally good.
“There is still a lot of improvement and things we need to work on but, on the whole, I thought the attitude and work-ethic was very good and that’s all we could ask for.
“We are a work in progress playing against a fit full-time side and I thought the boys equipped themselves well.
“Those that put on a Weymouth shirt for the first time will now know what it’s like to play for Weymouth. There was a great crowd clearing them on, on a good pitch.
“There is lots for them to be excited about in playing for Weymouth and hopefully they got a good look at what it’s like here.”
After securing Wakefield after the encounter, Molesley insists his squad is almost complete. Although, he would still like to see the likes of Sam Lanahan and Jayden Corbridge continue their trial periods at the club.
“With Josh signing, the spaces are getting a little bit smaller. There is probably a space or two left, so it’s up to the people to fight it out and prove their worth,” he added.
“I would definitely like to see them (Lanahan and Corbridge) again. They are both players who have showed up well in pre-season and showed the right work-ethic that we are looking at.
“It was difficult for them coming on in the second half with the number of changes, so it would be unfair for me to give a big assumption on them.
“I’d like to see a little bit more of them, to be honest.”
