WEYMOUTH striker Brandon Goodship believes the club has put a “good foundation” in place during pre-season as the Terras turn their attentions to the new Evo-Stik Southern Premier League campaign.

Mark Molesley’s men signed off their pre-season endeavours with a hard-fought 3-1 win at Wimborne Town and go into their home match against St Ives with some impressive results behind them.

And Goodship told Echosport he is happy with the side’s performances, but feels there is “always room for improvement”.

He said: “Pre-season is not about results but obviously as a team we want to win every game we play. We have given a good account of ourselves in the games.

“There’s always room for improvement but we have got off to a good start and a good foundation for the start of the season.”

“We feel confident going into the first game, we have prepared really well. Hopefully that will pay dividends on Saturday.”

Goodship also revealed he will be happy to see the back of pre-season.

“There’s always a lot of running involved and obviously the games aren’t as competitive as you would like but as I’ve said before there’s nothing better than playing on a Saturday for three points,” he said.

Having earlier stated that being coached by Molesley was a big factor in his move to the Bob Lucas Stadium, Goodship feels that the manager has struck up a good relationship with the squad.

He said: “He’s brought in some really good players that he’s worked with before and kept a good few from last season.

“He knows how to get the best out of us and when it’s time to be serious. He’s got a really good balance with the players with the working relationship.”

On a personal level, Goodship says his goals in pre-season have boosted his confidence ahead of the new campaign, particularly his strike against former club Yeovil.

He said: “It’s always nice to score no matter who you play against. It was nice to score against them not only because they’re my former club but because they’re two or three league higher.

“But it was no sweeter than the one against Wimborne. It’s added to my confidence.”

An open training session will be held at the Bob Lucas stadium tonight (7pm) followed by a fans’ forum.
