WEYMOUTH defender Calvin Brooks wants to affect games “as much as possible” in his new role as a right wing-back this season.

Having played last season as a centre-back, Brooks is thriving in his new position and is enjoying the “freedom” given to him by manager Mark Molesley to play on the right wing.

He told Echosport: “I just want to try and affect the game as much as possible. The manager gives me a lot of freedom to play down the whole right side on my own, which can be tiring a lot of the time!

“A lot of people have said to me at the time I was playing centre-back that I was good there but I was wasted going forward. It’s a lot of work.

“I played centre-back at Odd Down and it did feel like it was a breeze playing back there. I feel lucky to have played there for so long.

“But it is good, I’m really enjoying getting forward and trying to make a difference in the final third.”

The Terras play National League South team Chippenham Town in the FA Cup second qualifying round at the Bob Lucas Stadium today (3pm) and Brooks is aware his team needs to make their home ground a “fortress”.

He said: “We knew what we needed to get back to, this is a fortress. We need to start making the statement that teams can’t just come to the Bob Lucas and leave with a result.

“Against Kettering it was probably the best atmosphere we’ve had all season but that comes from us, trying to create that and scoring goals and getting the fans behind us, so we really appreciate that.”
