WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley believes the Terras were “very lacklustre” during their 2-0 Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division loss to Hereford at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Goals from John Mills and James Bowen gave the Bulls all three points, with Molesley admitting he was struggling to take a positive from the match.

He said: “We’re obviously very disappointed with ourselves.

“I’m finding it hard to find many positives. Really for the first time this season at any stage we haven’t really got hold of it and really showed any of our potential.

“Fair play to Hereford, they’re a strong good side but we were very lacklustre. Luckily there’s another game tomorrow and we need to react and react quickly because we were disappointed.”

Despite the scoreline, Molesley was heartened by the chances Weymouth created during the game.

“I think we were poor by our standards. We still did have some very good chances in the game. Obviously the missed penalty and first half Brandon’s smashed one over from a great position.

“And second half their goalkeeper’s made three or four great saves including the penalty so that shows that when we do get the ball down and play and do it how we train and work hard to we can be effective.

“Overall, with the game I don’t think we deserved much and if anything I think the chances would have masked a lacklustre performance from ourselves,” he said.

Molesley also felt Hereford’s first goal was “completely avoidable” and said his team needed to “grow up quickly”.

He said: “The first goal was very, very soft from our point of view, completely avoidable, a bit of a mix-up. Again, we’re a young side and we’ve got to grow up quickly.

“If there’s anything to take out of today’s game, hopefully we learn more through our struggles. I think for the first time we looked like a young side and we showed our lack of experience where last week we stood up and showed what we’re about.

“It’s a good wake-up call for our players. I felt Hereford came and gave a good test today and taught us a few lessons.”

And Molesley also praised the atmosphere at the ground, with a sizeable audience of 1,518 spectators gathering for the game.

“I think that shows the size of both clubs, they’ve both got great followings and it added a great atmosphere.

“I was just disappointed that we didn’t go and show our true selves in front of a good crowd today,” he said.

Pinpointing aspects of the Terras’ game that fell short against Hereford, Molesley did not hold back in his assessment.

He said: “We sat too deep. I don’t think we communicated, we didn’t talk well to each other. We lacked a bit of leadership out there and unfortunately it was almost a bit infectious.

“We never really got ourselves going. We had some moments in the game, don’t get me wrong, but they’re ones you expect to see.

“I work with these players all the time and I know how good they are so I expect to be making those chances like we did.

“But over the whole course of the 90 minutes we didn’t show enough endeavour and togetherness to really deserve anything.”

Elsewhere, teenage defender Dane James has joined Bridport on loan, with Molesley adamant that the full-back remains in his plans.

“He’s just turned 17 and he’s definitely in our plans. That’s why we were looking to loan him out, for him to go and get first team football and experience that.

“He’s a long-term project and he needs to go out and get men’s football,” he said.
