WEYMOUTH striker Brandon Goodship wants to repay the belief shown in him by manager Mark Molesley after signing an extension to his one-year deal with the Terras.

Having signed for the club back in June after his release from Yeovil Town, Goodship netted against his former employers in pre-season and has gone on to score 13 league goals for Weymouth so far this term.

Speaking to Echosport, Goodship revealed that Molesley had “kept to his word” after promising an extension if his form were to sufficiently impress the Terras’ boss.

He said: “I’m delighted with it really, it’s a huge club and it’s going in the right direction.

“With the plans for the future with Mark and Paul (Maitland, assistant-manager) and the guys behind the scenes it’s a really good feel around the club and it’s an honour to sign.

“I’ve had quite a good start to the season and at the start of the year Moles said if I did well I’d be rewarded and he’s kept to his word.

“He’s put a lot of faith in me and I’m looking forward to repaying him with more goals, good performances and hopefully we can climb the table.”

Goodship recently returned from injury and bagged a brace against Basingstoke during a 3-3 draw in his first start since his comeback.

He said: “It was nice to get a couple of goals. They played well and we weren’t at our best on the night.

“To get a point was a good result in the end.

“We’re looking forward to Saturday (at Banbury) and we’re looking to pick up three points on the road.

“The fixtures are such that we’re purely focused on who our next opponents are and how we can win that next game, that’s our focus during the week.”

Weymouth are flying high in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division, currently sitting third, but Goodship insisted the Terras had not talked about their final position.

“We haven’t really spoken about where we want to end up.

“We do know we’ve got a really good squad and if we do all the right things I don’t see why we won’t be up there at the end of the season if we continue to grind out results,” he said.

Goodship also referenced the plethora of attacking options at the Bob Lucas Stadium as a key factor in Weymouth’s success this season, adding that he had learnt from experienced strikers Matt Tubbs and James Hayter.

He said: “The likes of Matt and James coming in and Bakes (Harry Baker) and Thommo (Ben Thomson) have been unbelievable this season.

“Both of them (Baker and Thomson), their goals have been invaluable. Obviously James is a great player and great off the pitch as well.

“His experience is valuable, especially with what he’s done in the game. Everything he does you watch and everything he says you listen to because he’s a man of experience.”
