WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley said he was really disappointed after seeing his side gift wrap two second-half goals for Dorchester to draw 2-2 in the Ridgeway derby in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Goals from Charlie Davis and Brandon Goodship in the 39th and 62nd minute saw the Terras get a 2-0 lead before a seven-minute spell saw Kyle Egan and Sam Lanahan draw the Magpies level.

Molesley said: “I know Christmas is a season of goodwill but we literally gift wrapped it for them. I think we were very very generous in our defending which is sad because they have been so strong and resolute lately.”

The result was the second draw in three league encounters between the two sides and sees Weymouth stay in third while the Magpies stay 20th in the table.

Molesley said: “From our point of view we are really disappointed

“We didn’t play well by any stretch of the imagination but getting yourself into a 2-0 lead and then obviously you are going to be absolutely gutted after dropping them points.

The match was played in difficult conditions with heavy rain and strong wind throughout the game impeding play.

Molesley said: “It was a windy, horrible wet day it was never going to be a spectacle for good football, I think the ball probably spent more time off the pitch than on it with the wind.

“It is always tough to get spells of dominance because the ball will break down.”

Molesley lamented the mistakes that led to the two goals for Dorchester in the second half, saying: “Unfortunately we switched off for a couple of vital moments in the game and it has cost us.

“It was suicidal defending and we have gift-wrapped two goals for them and that is the disappointing thing.”

Molesley was not making any excuses for his side’s performances despite the difficult conditions it was played in.

Molesley said: “We don’t make excuses, same for both teams, we have got ourselves in the right place in the game and unfortunately switched off.”

The attendance of 1885 was the biggest that the Bob Lucas Stadium has seen so far this season.

Molesley paid tribute to the turnout saying: “It was fantastic, I’m glad that they have come out and supported this team and I’m just gutted that we couldn’t deliver the performance that people who see us regularly will know that we can.”

Molesley said: “We are hurting at the moment but we have not lost the game, we roll onto New Years. It is disappointing, when you get a full house you want to get down and show them what you are all about.”

Molesley paid tribute to the Magpies, saying: “Fair play to Dorchester, they didn’t give in and they kept going.

“It is a derby game they have got nothing to lose, they kept fighting and you saw how much it meant to them at the end of the game to grab a point here so I think that is a credit to our boys.”

Weymouth are next in action away at Gosport Borough on New Year’s Day.
