WEYMOUTH assistant-manager Paul Maitland felt Weymouth put in a very good performance after they drew 1-1 away at King’s Lynn Town, who prior to the match had been top of the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

Brandon Goodship scored his 20th league goal of the season which ensured that Weymouth came away with a point after

Simon Lappin had headed the Linnets in front on the 75th minute.

Maitland said: “I felt that we put in a very good performance away from home, I thought we had a good game plan that we stuck to, I felt we nullified them for large chunks of the game and probably had the better chances over the game.

“I would have been very disappointed if we had come away with a point which when you go away to the league leaders you are happy to come away with a point.

“On another day it could have been three points but we are pleased with a point.”

As a result of the draw, King’s Lynn surrendered their position at the top of the table as Kettering Town took over after they beat Merthyr Town 4-2.

Alex Street in the Linnets’ goal had a good game as he managed to keep out some great efforts including a strike in the 17th minute which he pushed on to the bar and bounced out.

Maitland said: “He had a very good first half, he made a couple of very good saves and we were unlucky not to score with Brandon who had a great effort pushed on to the inside of the bar and bounced out.

“He did have a good game and we probably had the better chances in the first half although King’s Lynn were dangerous on the break.”

The two sides went in at half-time with the score 0-0 but the Terras started the second half well, with early chances for Ben Thomson and Josh Carmichael.

A cross in from Michael Clunan shortly after a free-kick in the 75th minute saw Will Dennis push the ball out but it came to Lappin who headed the ball in from eight yards out to take the lead.

Maitland felt the Terras did not deserve to go behind and felt that a free-kick in the build up to the goal given after a Carmichael foul should not have been awarded, as he believes Carmichael won the ball.

Speaking of the Terras’ reaction to the goal Maitland said: “We are resilient , we stuck to the task and we got a deserved equaliser with a great finish by Brandon.

“Had we come away with anything less than a point it would have been unjust, I do not think King’s Lynn would have any qualms with that. It was actually a very good point away.”

The match saw Jake McCarthy make his first start in the league for the Terras since their 3-0 defeat against Slough Town in November.

Maitland said: “It was great to get Jake back into the side.

“He came through 90 minutes and I thought he put in a good shift.”
