NEW Weymouth chairman Ian White has described his appointment as Weymouth chairman yesterday as “something I never dreamed I would be able to do”.

White succeeds Alan Pepperell who stepped in on an acting basis a week after Steve Mills resigned on January 10.

White said: “I felt very proud, it is something I never dreamed I would be able to do but I have got a good team behind me so I think we can make a difference.

“The opportunity came and I grabbed it. It was a case of the club they sort of need to get a bit of direction so we can see where we are going behind the scenes and I think I can do that and that is why I stepped up.”

White praised the team’s current efforts as he said: “We have got 10 games to go we really need to get everyone behind us and fans through the gates and who knows where we could end up.

“It is a fantastic time to be involved in Weymouth football club.”

White has been with the club for 22 years and also runs the Wessex Fantasy Football League and will carry on in this role as well as editor of the programme.

When asked what his message to the fans would be, White said: “I want them to get behind the team, we have got 10 weeks to go, 10 really important cup finals from now through to what we hope will be a play-off place.

“The fans have been fantastic over the years and especially in the last five or six years. We have got so many volunteers that raise thousands of money which makes a huge difference.”

Praising the Terras’ current league situation, which sees them in a strong challenge for a play-off place, White said: “This is a huge opportunity for the club and I think we can do it.

“Without a shadow of a doubt this management set-up from Mark Molesley right through to all the players is the best we have had, I think, in the last 22 years that I have been involved.”

White will attend the Bob Lucas Stadium when the Terras face Slough on Saturday.
