WEYMOUTH club captain Ashley Wells believes the Terras can beat anyone on their day as his side look ahead to another tough encounter at home to Slough Town on Saturday in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The Terras have five wins in their last six matches but lost 2-0 away to top of the table Hereford on Saturday.

Wells said: “It is all for us really, if we play like we can, I think we can beat anyone in the league it is just whether we are on it or not.

“We want to win every game we are a very determined team, no matter what we are playing even in training. We have got very good desire in our team.”

Looking ahead to Saturday’s opponents, the Rebels, Wells said: “They are another good team and Slough are up there, they want to finish as high as they can. They are a good footballing team.”

Wells missed the Terras’ previous game against Slough, a 3-0 defeat away at Holloways Park in November, with injury.

“I do not think they have changed too much from last year, they have got some players from the league over there.

“We are a good team as well, we like to play. We play the right way, we have got a good defence.

“We tend not to end too many games without scoring. We are a very dangerous team, it will be a tough one.”

On Saturday, the team welcomed a new addition to the defence as Thiago Caze da Silva signed for the Terras, having taken part in a training session on the Thursday prior.

Wells said: “He came in on Thursday so I have started to play with him. He looks a good player, he came on against Hereford and he played well.

“He was unlucky not to score, he had a good header that went wide but he is a good addition, he looks a good player he can play.

“In the small time I have seen him he does look like a good addition for us.”

On Monday, Weymouth announced that Ian White has become chairman of Weymouth.

When asked if the players had discussed the appointment Wells said: “Things off the pitch we tend to not read too much into or get involved in because it is football and that is the politics side of it and that is not what we are at the club for.

“We are just here to play and do the best for the team.”

When asked about the 2-0 defeat to Hereford Wells said: “They should not really be in this league, they are a team that should be higher and I do not feel like we played badly.”

“They scored a very good goal and then a scrappy one but they did not really tear us apart. It was a wonder strike and then a bit of poor defending.

“On another day that is 0-0 and you come away from there but they are always going to win the league.

“Their home record is very good and they do have the players that can win games.”
