WEYMOUTH youngster Bailey Rowe has received an invite to train with the British Virgin Islands national team.

Rowe, 15, will head to a training camp in Milton Abbey in April and will have the chance to take part in sessions with the side that are ranked 205th in the world.

It is anticipated that the centre-forward, who plays for Weymouth Under-16s who currently sit fourth in Division One of the Under-16 Dorset Youth League, will feature for the side next year.

He will be joined by fellow Champion Sports students Alex Keen and Charles Medway from Bournemouth and Poole respectively.

Rowe played in the CONCACAF Under-15s’ Championship for the British Virgin Islands under-15s’ side in Florida last year, alongside Keen and Medway as they reached the Division Three Final, and is currently on trial at Yeovil Town.

The British Virgin Islands team are hoping to play a fixture when they are at Milton Abbey but this is yet to be finalised.

It will be run by British Virgin Islands

national team assistant coach Dan Neville who is from from Lytchett and also runs Champion Sports, a football coaching group based in Dorset.

Neville has also been working with the national team since taking a training camp for the team last year.

“We have got a camp in April and have got a camp in July then we are playing in three FIFA match windows in September, October, November and possibly March.

“We are ranked 41st out of 41 at the moment in the CONCACAF nations and we are all really determined to change that there are some really good young players.”

Neville explains that the tragedies that have hit the islands in recent years, such as Hurricane Irma, add as motivation for him as he said: “We are now really determined to bring some positivity to the islands and the Caribbean as well.”

Neville took the under-12 side to a tournament in Puerto Rico in January and said: “When you think of what they have been through. They have lost homes, a couple of them have lost family members so their attitude and application to what they do is a real credit to themselves and to their nation. “
