WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley was pleased to see his side avoid a potential banana skin as his side beat Gosport Borough 5-0 at the Bob Lucas Stadium in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

The Terras netted via a hat-trick for Brandon Goodship, an early Harry Baker goal and an own goal from Gosport’s Edward Saunders.

Molesley said: “It is always a bit of a potential banana skin so it just a case of keeping focused and trying to do the right things, I think on the whole we did that today.

“You have to be happy with five goals and a clean sheet at this stage of the season.”

Baker headed over Patrick O’Flaherty and into the net with Weymouth’s first attack.

By half-time Weymouth were 3-0 up against a Gosport that offered very little resistance to the Terras’ attack.

Molesley said: “I think at home in front of our crowd we really want to get out of the traps quick and I thought Harry worked really hard today and caused them problems.

“It was a good ball in from behind and Bakes never gave it up and put the pressure on the defender and got his reward so it was important we got out and started fast.

“They played on Saturday (1-1 against Biggleswade) so that was always going to be an advantage to us and we needed to make that count.”

When asked if that was how he expected the match to go, Molesley said: “You never know what to expect in football but you have got to be ready to react to anything.

“What I did expect was the performance and energy levels from our players.

“We nullified their threat and that is all you can do and we did not give them much of a sniff.”
