Weymouth FC under 14’s picked up the seasons major trophy when they won the Dorset County Cup On Sunday following a pulsating final at DCFA’s County Ground at Hamworthy.

In the sweltering 25 Degree heat, which was hotter at pitch side on the plastic 3G pitch, the young Terras produced a fantastic display to defeat their county rivals.

The team, managed by former Terras Striker Martin Underhay, received a pre match boost with a rousing Pep Talk from 1st Team Boss Mark Molesley.  The team went out and produced a ruthless 1st half display that stunned Poole Town. The Terras started at 100 mile an hour, closing down the Dolphins every single time they had the ball, giving them no time whatsoever to launch any meaningful attacks and Poole soon had to resort to the long ball tactics for their pacey strike force, but that was seen off in no nonsense fashion by Tyler Jeff  Jamie Cleaver and Harvey Chard at the back. Weymouth, controlling the midfield, came forward in wave after wave of attack, shocking their opponents, orchestrated by the excellent Zac Sparrow and Owen Peart, and  the marauding Tommy Jeff and the tireless Jack Crouch and it was no surprise when the Terras took the lead on 13 minutes when good play by Luca Davies on the left saw the ball come to namesake Finn Davies 30 yards out, Davies turned and hit an unstoppable shot into the top corner of Poole Town net leaving the keeper no chance.

7 minutes later it was 2-0 as more fantastic team play out on the left saw an inviting cross headed in by Davies to claim his second of the match.

The young Terras were in full control now with Ole Underhay and Zac sparrow winning every ball in midfield and the ruthless defensive line not giving poole a sniff of the ball.

Peart and Finn Davies were causing all sorts of problems and they simply could not be contained when Finn Davies completed his Hatrick in the 24th Minute when he rifled home after great work from Underhay and Crouch.

The powerful Jeff twins and Zac Sparrow were clearly too much to deal with and it came as no surprise when Tommy Jeff burst through and produced a stunning finish when his rocket shot went in off the far post for number 4 on 31 minutes.

The second half started well and the Terras continued to Dominate but a breakaway goal  Seven minutes into the 2nd half proved to be the catalyst for a Poole Town rivival. The Terras were never going to be able to keep up the same pace they had showed in the first half in the searing heat and the Dolphins started to find space and start launching attacks on the Weymouth goal.

Tyler Jeff, Cleaver and Chard remained steadfast and limited the meaningful efforts on Connor Sticklands goal but Poole pressure eventually paid off 20 minutes from time when Stickland brilliantly parried a point blank effort but could do nothing about the follow up to make it 4-2.

Weymouth were starting to feel the affects of the heat and after putting so much energy into the first half and were struggling to keep the ball. As his team ran out of energy, Martin Underhay rang the changes as he brought on Defenders Ollie Wilcocks and Sam Farmer along with Utility men Kyle Griffin and Mathuis Kawalec as Poole completely threw caution to the wind by pushing two extra men forward in search for a third. That arrived with 11 minutes remaining to incredibly make the score 4-3.

Weymouth were now defending for their lives and produced an incredible rearguard action for the remainder of the game, showing Incredible character as they blocked, tackled and battled all the way to the end.

The final whistle produced ecstatic scenes from the Weymouth players and supporters as they all knew what an incredible team performance this was.

Both teams played a fantastic part in a memorable and sporting final, played in the greatest of spirits between the two teams.

Following the presentation, Mark Molesley personally congratulated the team on an amazing performance and took to Twitter to say that he had seen some future stars.

A fantastic day for the club.
