MARK Molesley praised his side for the competition within it as he saw Weymouth draw 2-2 away at Hamworthy United, earned with a superb late strike from Liam Farrugia.

Farrugia’s strike came at the end of a difficult battle upon the sun-kissed astroturf at Hamworthy to cap a fine second half from Weymouth.

Molesley said: “Competition is high here, there is still a lot of rustiness about us but there are also plenty of positives to come away with and plenty of bits to work on.”

Hamworthy initially took the lead through a trialist as they capitalised upon the counter-attack early in the first half.

Weymouth battled through and had chances but could not fashion an equaliser however.

The second half, following a raft of changes, saw Weymouth dominate their opponents displaying flair and confidence on the attack.

The deserved equaliser came through Brandon Goodship, who curled in following a run down the left by one of the trialists.

Weymouth had numerous chances to extend their lead as the half became somewhat one-sided for the Terras.

However, despite their torrent they were caught out by River Smith who fired in from inside the box to hand the Hammers a lead mid-way through the second half.

It seemed Weymouth were heading to defeat before Abdulai Baggie swung in a corner which was headed away.

However, it was headed only as far as Farrugia who from 25-yards out lashed the ball into the top corner to earn the draw for the Terras.

Molesley praised the Terras’ opponents for their display, saying: “The boys worked hard, we were frustrated at times but it was a hot and sticky day. But then no complaints on our part, Hamworthy gave us a really good challenge – we got a lot out of it.”
