Matt Bound delighted by goal for Weymouth Legends

FORMER Weymouth captain Matt Bound was glad to be back with a goal at the Bob Lucas Stadium as he scored in a 2-2 draw as Weymouth played a legends match against Bournemouth.

Bound captained the Terras for the game, which was in aid of Weldmar Hospicecare, and scored a 42nd minute penalty to put the Terras 2-1 up, before James Hayter equalised in the second half.

Bound said: “It is always nice to score. It was great to be back and see all of the old faces.

“Everybody that is here is happy, it just shows the sort of team spirit we had when we were here 10, 15 years ago now. The pitch is still as big as ever, it was hard work.”

Bound admitted the side reminisced in the changing room about past stories and matches.

Bound said: “We were just chatting in there and some of the stories and some of the games we recalled from some of the seasons we were together and obviously some of the lads were here after I was here.

“So there are lots of enjoyable memories from my time down here and it was just nice driving back into Weymouth this morning.”

The side was varied for Weymouth, with the likes of Calvin Brooks who played for the Terras last season lining up alongside former stars Roy O’Brien and Ian Hutchinson.

Bound said: “As most of us are mid to late 40s, it does not get any easier so when you see the young lads are on our side it is quite nice because you have got fresh legs.”

When asked if he still keeps an eye on Weymouth, Bound said: “You always keep an eye on your old teams. It was a shame they missed out last year but hopefully they can build on that and seal promotion this year.”
