Weymouth chairman Ian White delighted with club set up

WEYMOUTH chairman Ian White has praised the current set up at the Terras as being the best he has ever seen in his 22 years at the club.

Speaking to Echosport he praised the loyalty of the players who have stayed after Weymouth’s superb last season which saw them finish fifth with 97 points in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division.

White said: “We have built on it, we have kept most of the squad together, as I have said before, I have been at the clubs and it is the best management team or set up I have ever seen at the club.

“I love the loyalty of the management team and the players it has been tremendous.”

He also praised his board of directors and sponsors and was emphatic about looking forward to the Terras’ season, which starts on Saturday away at Harrow Borough in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

White said: “We have got most of last season’s squad still with us and I am really looking forward to what is coming up.

“I have got a great board of directors who work their socks off to get whatever they can and get us into positions that we are in.

“We have got a brilliant sponsor who I am over the moon with, Bluebird Coaches, who have been with the club as long as I can remember.”

White became chairman on February 25, and has previously helped raise funds for transfers through his Wessex Fantasy League, which contributed to the club signing Brandon Goodship last year.

White said: “I just want us to kick on from last season. In some ways you could say we were unlucky, fifth in the league with 97 points and on any other season we would have probably gone up with that.

“I am hoping we can kick off and kick on.

“I am really looking forward to it it is going to be great.”

When asked about the recruiting process now he is chairman, White said: Like I said we had most of the squad in place by the beginning of May and I cannot remember that ever happening at the club. The speed by which that happened was quite incredible and again that comes down to loyalty. The guys have been brilliant and all of the players that have stayed with us are just tremendous.”
