CALLUM Buckley believes Weymouth have the right players to go at least one step further than their FA Cup third qualifying round defeat last year to Chelmsford City as they prepare to host Banbury United in the first qualifying round today (3pm).

Last year, the Terras were knocked out 2-1 by the Clarets, with a Chris Dickson brace doing the damage but Buckley believes the Terras can go further this year.

Buckley said: “We did well last year, I thought we were unlucky when we went to Chelmsford, we gave a really good account of ourselves and we were unlucky not to get anything from that game really.

“So this year, we hope that we can go one further this year and push on and I think we can we have got the players to do it.”

Weymouth face a Banbury side that were in the same league as the Terras last year but were restructured into the Evo-Stik Southern Premier Division Central.

In their two encounters last season, the Terras earned a 2-1 win away before a 1-1 draw at home.

Buckley said: “I think every game in the FA Cup is going to be tough. It is going to have different aspects of how they play.

“We know Banbury from last year and they are a good side they will be very difficult but we are going to play our game and they will come here and we will look to win and get through to the next round.”

Buckley says he has not made it too far in the FA Cup before but emphasised what a huge competition it is.

Buckley said: “Unfortunately I have not made it too far in the FA Cup before which is unlucky. I have always enjoyed the FA Cup it is always a massive, massive cup in England and to get far in it would be brilliant.”

Buckley admits the side are disappointed in their 4-3 loss at Farnborough last weekend but says the squad are ‘desperate’ to make amends for it.

Buckley said: “We are a positive group, we were disappointed with the result at Farnborough and we are desperate to make amends with that. We have been working really hard in training on Tuesday and Thursday to make sure that we put that right.”
