Mark Molesley bemoans fine margins for Weymouth

WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley bemoaned fine margins after he saw his side lose 2-1 to Banbury United in their FA Cup first qualifying round replay.

Amer Awadh scored a deflected goal in the 39th minute, while a late penalty from Giorgio Rasulo sealed the win before Stephane Zubar scored a consolation goal at the death.

Molesley said: “There was not a lot between the two teams over the two games which shows how tight the scoreline was.”

Referring to Brandon Goodship’s penalty miss when the two sides were drawing 1-1 on Saturday, Molesley said: “Ultimately it came down to fine margins. They scored their penalty, we missed ours. That is the fine line.

“You need a little bit of lady luck sometimes. With their first goal we had stood up to everything they had thrown at us. I did not feel that we were threatened too much in the first half. Unfortunately they have gotten on the end of a flick-on and the shot we tried to block but it deflected off into the top corner.

“Unfortunately they just got the better (of us) in the end with the scoreline.”

Molesley had no objections about the Puritans’ late penalty.

He said: “It is a cup game, we are trying to desperately get back into it.

“We have been countered on and we have left ourselves short at the back in search of the equaliser.”

“It was one of them we could not quite force it in at their end and they have broken scored a penalty at the other.”
