WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley says the Weymouth fans know not to leave early, as a late Harry Baker strike earned all three points against Wimborne Town in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Referring to Baker coming onto the pitch in the 64th minute for Warren Bentley, Molesley said he gave the Terras the spark they needed in their 1-0 win.

Molesley said: “We needed a spark because they were organised and resolute and we were probably getting a little bit frustrated at times.

“We keep going, we keep banging on the door, we always do. I think the crowd know not to leave early.

“There is always action.”

Weymouth were throwing everything at Wimborne and created four great chances in the first half, before monopolising possession in the second half in search of a winning goal.

Molesley said: “I think we thoroughly deserved three points and it was a really hard-fought three points.

“We had to show a lot of different characteristics, we had to be patient. We had to bide our time and keep moving the ball and looking for openings. We created more than enough openings to get the three points and we deserved them.

“Then the last five minutes obviously from getting the lead the mindset changes and you have got everything to lose. The last five minutes were a little bit frantic from our point of view.”

Wimborne played a defensive game and for large swathes of the second half sat with at least six men in their defensive line in an effort to stop Molesley’s charges.

Yet, after the Weymouth goal, they almost grabbed an equaliser with a late effort from Louis Kellaway.

Molesley praised the Wimborne side for their performance and highlighted how difficult they were to break down.

Molesley said: “Credit to Wimborne, they were really organised and really hard to break down.

“I was quite pleased in the first half, we fashioned four really good chances.

“The keeper made a great double save for one, there was an unbelievable block on the line with Goodship where you are just virtually celebrating and a couple of other real good chances.

“I think if one of those goes in it becomes a lot easier because their defensive game plan is out of the window really.”

Molesley also praised the patience that his side showed in having to wait until the 84th minute for the goal and enjoyed the crowd’s reaction to seeing Baker back following his loan to Frome Town.

Molesley said: “We had to show a lot of patience, we got our reward in the end.

“With Harry coming on you could hear the crowd and you can see the impact he has when he comes on.

“Everyone was so pleased to see him out there in the Weymouth colours again and Harry does what Harry does, he timed his run well.

“I am delighted for him, his attitude has been unbelievable.”

Reflecting on the last moments, Molesley said: “We had to hang in there and defend at the end. We held strong, we probably rode our luck a little bit in the last five minutes. On the whole I felt that we had enough of the ball and probably created enough chances so that we deserved the three points.”
