Weymouth return delights Calvin Brooks

CALVIN Brooks admitted that he is glad to be back at the Bob Lucas Stadium with a win as the Terras left it late to edge past Wimborne Town 1-0 in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South on Saturday.

It was Brooks’ first game back at the Bob Lucas Stadium since re-signing for the Terras nearly two weeks ago and he marked his return with the crucial assist that helped Harry Baker slide in the winning goal.

When asked if he was glad to be back with a win, Brooks grinned and replied: “Yeah of course, it’s the same old, same old, isn’t it? We left it late it but I’m just really pleased to get the win.

“Obviously it is a little bit of an adjustment period, I would say that I am quite fit but it is a case of being match sharp rather than just fitness.

“I have still got a long way to go but I suppose getting in there and playing games is the only way to do that so I am really happy to get 90 minutes.”

When asked if he was satisfied with his own performance, Brooks revealed that he is never really fully satisfied.

Brooks explained: “I am never really fully satisfied, if I am honest, unless I get a couple of goals or do something a little bit special.

“I am just pleased to be involved in the win, grabbing an assist obviously.

“I am pleased but getting the three points is the most important thing.”

Wimborne played a defensive game, looking to catch the Terras on the counter but sat very deep for most of the second half and Brooks praised Weymouth’s opponents for their performance.

Brooks said: “We have got used to playing against different teams, everyone plays the way they want to play so you have just got to be prepared for that.

“They are very good on the ball, they are a good counter attacking team as well so you have got to pay them their due but we expected them to sit in and let us come out from the back and I thought we did that well and in the end we broke them down and got the win.”

Brooks is glad for the week’s break, having had three matches already since his return, with the Terras not in action until they travel to Swindon Supermarine on Saturday (3pm).

Brooks said: “It is good, especially for myself I need to get a few more training sessions in so that will be an opportunity to get another two sessions in this week so I am really looking forward to that and then hoping that we get the result on Saturday.”
