WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admitted the Terras were slow out of the blocks as they drew 1-1 at Swindon Supermarine in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South.

Conor McDonagh’s 10th-minute goal for the home side was cancelled out by Calvin Brooks’ 39th minute effort but the Terras could not find a winning goal.

“We were slow out of the blocks and we got punished for that. Fortunately we got the equaliser and then in the second half we enjoyed large spells of possession.

“We created a couple of good chances which on another day could have gone in but it didn’t and then at the end we had to defend again.”

When asked if it was two points dropped, Molesley said: “Yes and no, it was a difficult game.

“It was a lovely set up and a lovely pitch but it was blowing quite a gale so it kept the ball out of play a little bit too much.

“After a poor start, I was pleased to be back into the game, to be honest.”

Molesley hopes that his side can look back on it as a positive point however, pointing out the reaction from his side’s slow start.

“It is a point on the road and hopefully we will look back on it as a valuable point after a poor start from ourselves. I am glad we got a reaction and got ourselves going.”

The match ended on a controversial note, with Harry Baker receiving a straight red card in the 90th minute.

Molesley offered his take on the incident, saying: “It was a very harsh red card.

“He went and charged down the ball which was smashed at him and it probably hit his arm, the referee has said handball but he (Baker) has obviously carried on and a player has come in with a crunching tackle on him and he has sort of moved his leg to get out to untangle it and the referee has sent him off.”

Reflecting upon the match, Molesley said: “I think we ended the first half better and we started the second half bright.

“I thought we were very brave playing out the back in the way we do and we got a couple of chances.

“Brandon (Goodship) got a couple of sights on goal but unfortunately it is not quite firing for ourselves.

“As long as we keep working hard and looking to improve I am sure we will get back into gear again and get them maximum points back on the board as quick as we can.”

Molesley was pleased for Brooks’ goal, which was his first since re-signing for the Terras.

Molesley said: “That was one of the plus points that Calvin has got a goal and got 90 minutes so he is edging ever closer to full match fitness.”

Callum Buckley is also close to returning for the Terras, with the defender having trained on Thursday and trained with the squad prior to the draw, but did not feature in the squad.

The club are waiting on the fitness of Ben Thomson’s injury, which Molesley said it will not be ‘an immediate fix’ for him, while Josh McQuoid remains out.
