Weymouth bid to ground the Peacocks

WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley admitted that his side could have had an easier tie as they prepare to travel to Taunton Town in the first qualifying round of the FA Trophy tomorrow (3pm).

The Terras have already faced the Peacocks once this season, winning 2-1 at home in a very hard-fought victory with a late goal from Abdulai Baggie sealing all three points.

Molesley said: “On paper it is probably one of the ties of the round. I think we both could have had an easier tie, but it is one that we are relishing and looking forward to.

“It could have been easier but it is never fun being easy.”

Molesley praised the Peacocks’ recent run in the FA Cup that saw them lose 1-0 in a fourth round replay against Billericay Town, and also referred to their earlier battle against them this season.

“We had a good game at home against them.

“You can see from their fantastic cup exploits what a good side they are, they very narrowly went out to the top of the National League South (Billericay Town) in midweek so it shows what a good side they are.

“It should make an entertaining match.”

When asked what he can take from the Terras’ match against the Peacocks earlier this season, Molesley said: “I think we can take the momentum, the confidence, into the next game. Go there, it is a cup game, we have got to go there and try and win the game. I expect it to be an exciting game.”

Molesley also revealed that Ben Thomson is ‘not far away’ while Callum Buckley is still building his fitness up following two substitute appearances in the wins against Tiverton Town and Walton Casuals.

Molesley said: “It is not the biggest squad but it is one of quality, there is not too much room for manoeuvre anyway from the squad now but we are putting our best foot forward with out squad.

“Buckers has come on against Walton, he is building his fitness up. He is itching to continue to build his minutes, Thommo isn’t far away.”
