Abdulai Baggie strike seals Street win for Weymouth

STREET 0

WEYMOUTH 1

Baggie 73

A LATE Abdulai Baggie strike earned Weymouth victory over Street in a tense FA Trophy second round replay at the Tannery.

Thanks to Baggie’s goal, the Terras will now host St Albans City in the third qualifying round on Saturday, November 24.

Weymouth made four changes to the side that drew 2-2 on Saturday, as Tiago Sa, Josh Carmichael, Ryan Glover and Harry Baker came in for Callum Buckley, Jordan Ngalo, Josh Wakefield and Ben Thomson.

Buckley was absent entirely, while Glover returned to the squad having been unavailable for the clash on Saturday to make his second appearance for the Terras.

The match started quietly with both teams trying to find their rhythm early on.

After 11 minutes, a chance fell to the home side, as a good ball into the box was met by the head of Matt Hurley, who put it well wide.

The home side had settled faster, as Weymouth goalkeeper Jordan Seabright had to be alert to stop a close-range effort from Harry Foster.

The Terras replied with a chance of their own, as Harry Baker saw a shot blocked moments later.

After 24 minutes, Sam Sherring went extremely close, when he saw his effort from a corner cleared off the line.

There were good late efforts from Baker, Calvin Brooks and Stephane Zubar tested Street goalkeeper Tom Punchard, who made all three saves.

Foster also tested Seabright once more but no breakthrough could be found before half-time.

The second half was similarly quiet, but in the early stages saw a Brandon Goodship effort deflect wide, before Seabright saved well from Leigh Bailey.

Weymouth went close when Carmichael played a great ball over to Jake McCarthy who headed over the bar, but the teams remained level after 67 minutes.

Six minutes later, the breakthrough came for Weymouth through Baggie, who drove the ball into the bottom corner to seal their progression into the next round.

Weymouth travel to Kings Langley in the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South on Saturday (3pm).
