Josh Carmichael was full of praise for Weymouth’s front-line after their 1-0 victory at Street in the Buildbase FA Trophy second qualifying round fixture last night.

Last night’s victory means that Weymouth will now face St Albans City at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday 24th November in the third qualifying round of the FA Trophy.

Speaking to theterras.com after the game Carmichael said that Street made things difficult for the Terras, “They gave us a very good game, it was a difficult game for us. It was one of those where we had to dig in, do the ugly side of the game but we produced a bit of quality and it was a good finish from Baggie after a great pass from Goodship.

“I think the first half of the game on Saturday we played very well and deserved to be 2-0 up, but we should have pushed on from there and we took our foot off the gas a little bit. Fair play to Street, they got back into it.

“I think tonight was the opposite, we just dug in and gave it a professional performance and got the job done.”

Carmichael hailed the forwards available for Weymouth last night, and singled out Ryan Glover for his performance. Glover, who is currently on loan from AFC Bournemouth and turned 18 last weekend, made his full debut for Weymouth.

“With the quality we have it the team, it only takes half a chance to get a goal, especially with the forwards we’ve got in Thomson, Baker, Goodship and Baggie. Ryan Glover was excellent tonight and played very well.

“It was never in doubt, it was just about being solid at the back and getting the job done.”

Looking ahead to the tie with St Albans City, Carmichael said he is looking forwarded to Weymouth testing themselves against higher opposition, “It’s always good to get a home tie, against higher opposite.

“We proved last year that we can play against higher opposite when we beat Chippenham and then went to Chelmsford and were unlucky.

“It will be a good test, it’s where we want to be, we want to be pushing on playing against the bigger and better teams.”

Weymouth are next in action on Saturday when they travel to Kings Langley, despite them languishing in 20th position in the table, Carmichael is predicting a tough afternoon for the Terras.

“Kings Langley will be a tough game, last season we got a last minute winner from Goodship, for a change! There’s obviously Salisbury on Tuesday too, but we will be focusing on Saturday first.”
