Ben Thomson’s physicality is a key component of Weymouth’s style of play says Terras boss Mark Molesley.

Speaking to theterras.com after Tuesday evening’s victory at St Albans, Molesley paid tribute to Thomson’s attributes and said he gives the Terras something different.

Thomson opened the scoring for Weymouth before Ryan Glover rounded off the victory in the second-half.

Speaking about the Terras front-man, Molesley said: “The way we started I felt that we could get Thomson in down the sides.

“Brandon picked the ball up quite deep and dragged the defender out with him, we felt that there was going to be space if that scenario arose and Brandon had the vision to know that the defender was tight to him and managed to spin it in to Thomson.”

Thomson has proved to be a handful for many defences this season, his goal on Tuesday night was his 8th of the season from 16 starts.

“When he gets into a full stride he’s hard to stop,” Molesley continued. “And not only did he hold the defender off, he got a clean strike away, so it was a good start for us.

“Thomson really does give us that physical presence up-front, he’s good in the air, he’s quick, he’s strong; he holds the ball up well.

“He’s a good foil for us because we’ve got a lot of talented footballers, and people who can pick out passes and with good movement.”

Molesley compared Thomson’s importance to the Terras frontline to Stephane Zubar’s importance to the Weymouth defence.

“You know with Thomson that he’s a real animal up there for us and makes sure we’ve got that physical box ticked on our team too.” Molesley said.

“I look at my defence and Zubar is completely the same for us at the back. We’ve got experience both ends of the field with a really physical presence.”

Weymouth have drawn Needham Market in the 1st Round of the Buildbase FA Trophy. The fixture will be played at the Bob Lucas Stadium on Saturday 15th December.
