MARK Molesley praised his squad for standing strong and getting the job done after he saw his side beat Tiverton Town 2-1 thanks to goals from Ben Thomson and Josh Wakefield.

Molesley also gave praise to Jordan Ngalo for providing the cross leading to Thomson’s goal, which the midfielder was able to get to due to quickly listening to the Terras’ boss calling out from the sidelines.

Molesley, when discussing the goals, said: “The goals have come at a good time, we are 2-0 up and then albeit for an unfortunate moment, when they have lashed one in the box, and they have managed to hook one in.

“We are in a position where we are fighting for every single point and it gets a little bit hairy but the boys stood strong and we got the job done in the end.”

Molesley praised Ngalo for his role in the first goal, which came in the second minute of injury time in the first half and sent Weymouth on the road to victory.

Molesley said: “Full credit to him, he arrived nicely.

“He showed real good composure with a pinpoint cross to the back stick where Tommo had spun out to, so it was a well-worked goal from our point of view.

“We deserved it and we needed a goal to just to settle us down, I think we dominated the game from start to finish.

“Again, we gave up hardly any shots on our goal throughout the game. We dominated the game throughout without setting it alight.”

Brandon Goodship was absent from the match, but this was due to an ankle injury and the Terras’ striker was in the directors’ box alongside Josh McQuoid.

Molesley explained: Unfortunately he picked up an ankle knock against Poole, so unfortunately he was unavailable through injury and before the game when the boys are warming up I am sitting in that changing room with Stephane Zubar (who was suspended for the match) Brandon Goodship and Josh McQuoid (knee injury) all sitting out of the squad.

“So it shows how well we have done and we are still competing at the top of the league.”

Molesley further reflected on the season so far, in terms of injuries, with Weymouth having incurred numerous in the first half, yet with the Terras still maintaining their title challenge.

With Taunton drawing with Dorchester, and the Met Police losing to Harrow, Weymouth can go two points clear at the top, should they win their games in hand.

Molesley said: “Like I said we have been very unfortunate with injuries, we have picked up two long-term injuries, Brandon has missed some, Thommo (Ben Thomson), Wellsy (Ashley Wells) and Buckers (Callum Buckley) have all missed a good month of the season. so like I said we are still in there, battling.

“It shows what a good squad we have-” before Molesley jokingly added: “like I said we have got quality not quantity as you can see that from me and Robbie (Yates) coming out of retirement again but fortunately we were not needed.

“We have needed every squad member over this period, this signals the end of a tough Christmas period and to finish it on three points, we had five games over two weeks.

“We finish it (the festive period) on a win and it is a good start to the year.”
