TOM McHale admitted the opportunity to re-join Weymouth on loan was just too good an opportunity to turn down after the goalkeeper signed for the club last week.

McHale originally signed for the club on loan during the 2016/17 season, before going back to parent club Truro City.

He then joined Elgin City, who are now his parent club, before his second Terras’ spell.

McHale said: “With the last time being here I was a lot younger and they gave me a great opportunity to show what I could do.

“When they came in and said that the opportunity was there for me to come back and play games and try and get the club promoted I think I just could not turn it down. It was just too good an option to turn down.

“With the situation the club is in at the moment everything is really positive. They want to go forward, that is all I want to do.”

McHale also emphasised the familiarity of the club being a real positive. In his last game of his previous spell with the Terras four of that same squad played when he made his second debut during the 4-3 win at Salisbury.

McHale said: “I am delighted obviously considering the situation I was in, not playing a lot of football.

“It is nice to be back and obviously it is a club I am familiar with, I’m familiar with the fans, a few of the players and the management and Paul (Maitland, director of football) and people like that so yeah it is nice to be back. Now I just want to build on the positive start I have had and see where it takes us.”

Speaking of his debut, McHale said: “It was never going to be an easy game against Salisbury.

“It went 3-3 and maybe people got a little bit nervous towards the end but as players we got together and said we can’t let this slip now considering the situation we were in at half-time (led 2-0).

“It has just been a really positive start and I have really enjoyed the first week, because I have only been here a week, I am already looking forward to Basingstoke, I know there are so many big games coming up.

“It is just something I am really excited to be involved with.”

Despite the great start to his Weymouth career, which has seen the Terras take two wins from two games, McHale says the squad are not going to take their form lightly.

McHale said: “It will be good to just see where these positive results can take us.

“We know we need to continue that form, it is not something we have taken too lightly. We know how hard we are going to have to work to reach the goals that we want to reach.

“I think as a group of players we are all willing to do that.”

Weymouth yesterday confirmed former Horndean keeper Lloyd Thomas has left the club.

Meanwhile, the winners of the January 2019 draw are: Neil Sowerby in first, followed by Ian Gardner and Ian C White with all three from Weymouth.
