“NONE of it would have been possible without my teammates and all of the coaching staff”, said an honoured Brandon Goodship, hours after the Weymouth striker heard about his England C call-up.

Goodship, who is now set to face Wales as part of the England C squad at Salford City on Tuesday, March 19, is the only player from step three of English football to have been called up, and Goodship admits it is an additional honour.

Goodship told Echosport: “None of it would have been possible without my teammates and all of the coaching staff, obviously Mark Molesley the manager at Weymouth, Tom Prodomo assistant manager, our analyst Danny Webb.

“All of the guys at Weymouth have been a massive help and none of it would have been possible without them or my teammates so I have them to thank.

“It is as much a team effort as it is an individual effort.

“Everyone is buzzing for me which is the sort of dressing room we have got. Everyone is really happy, so I look forward to it.“

Goodship also spoke of the honour of being called up, and says he is proud of the news.

He said: “It is a really, really big honour for me to have been called up, knowing that I am the only player outside of the (National Leagues) to have been called up it is quite a big achievement and one I am really proud of.”

Goodship was at home when he first heard the news, as notifications began to come in after England C manager Paul Fairclough announced his squad.

He explained: “I was just at home to be fair, I got a notification through on my phone and as soon as it came through I couldn’t really believe it.

“Obviously I was delighted, and I can’t wait to see what happens.”

Weymouth has England C pedigree, with manager Mark Molesley having played for the team and Goodship says he will seek his view on it.

Goodship admits he did not have any inkling that the call up was coming, but explained that it is hard to know what things you hear are true.

When asked if he had any indication that something was coming, Goodship replied: “Not particularly recently, you always hear about things like in football you always hear about stuff that is going on, you don’t really know what is true and what is not so you just have to take things with a pinch of salt and obviously help crack on and do my best for the team.”

Goodship is looking forward to linking up with the squad, and says it is a chance for him to shine and do well.

Goodship added: “It is a good calibre of players that are playing, that have been called up and I am delighted. Obviously I want to play at the highest level I can with the best players I can so for me it is a really big honour and a really good chance for me to shine and hopefully do well.”
