Brandon Goodship and Josh Wakefield joined Year 2 at Chickerell Primary Academy on Thursday as the children learnt about Fair Trade and also enjoyed World Book Day.

One of the activities involved the construction of a football out of recycled materials, with a match afterwards using this. Brandon and Josh refereed this keenly contested game, with there thankfully being no contentious decisions! The children also talked about some of the facts that they knew about the Rights Respecting ethos in the school.

Emily Stiles, Year 2 teacher, said, “Having real footballers in to talk helped the children realise the requirements of a functioning football. This also helped them to understand how football in Africa is loved but not always facilitated.”

As the day was also World Book Day, Brandon said that, given the choice, he would come dressed as Dobby from Harry Potter, while Josh stated that his preference would be Spiderman.

Rob Pask, teaching assistant, added, “This is continuing to be a fruitful link between the school and the club, one which we look forward to developing.”
