NEW Weymouth signing Kieron Roberts has praised the club for making him feel welcome on his return to English football.

Roberts had been in America studying and has recently returned after graduating in December, and his signing was announced prior to the 0-0 draw with Wimborne last week.

He made the bench that day, but made his debut for the Terras during the 2-0 Dorset Senior Cup semi-final defeat to Poole Town on Tuesday.

Roberts said: “Everyone has made me feel welcome. It is nice to be back in England first of all, playing as well, I have not had a game in a long time, since last year actually.

“They are a really good bunch of lads and it was good to get some minutes.”

Discussing his time in America, Roberts said: “It was great, I left when I was 18 and didn’t look back.

“ So it is quite weird coming home, especially on the football side. I graduated in December,

I had a few trials out there and a bit of a

holiday and then came back and thought I would get back into it for the rest of the season.

“It is university out there, it is not the same as here, college sports are very big, very popular so it was a good standard and then there is different divisions different leagues, which was great. I got to experience university, I got a diploma out of it which was great and a great life experience.”

Roberts was named man of the match during the defeat to Poole, but says he does not take accolades like that into account.

Roberts said: “It was disappointing obviously the result first and foremost.

“I don’t really take into account many personal accolades like that so we obviously want to win although it was not a league game which is more important at the moment. Any game that you step out onto the pitch you want to win, it does not matter who the opponent is, what league it is or what cup it is.”

Roberts already knew Josh Carmichael, Jake McCarthy, Brandon Goodship and Callum Buckley prior to his arrival at the Bob Lucas Stadium.

Roberts said: “I have a few friends here from AFC Bournemouth and a few guys I have known since I was eight or nine years old and they are doing really well and the team is obviously at the top of the table, looking for hopefully promotion.”

“There is a number of games left, it is a long season so injuries might pop up, if I get my chance hopefully I can just help the team get three points on the day and hopefully push for promotion.”
