BRANDON Goodship hailed Weymouth for putting themselves in a really strong position to go up and win the title, after his four-goal haul saw the Terras topple Staines Town 4-0.

Goodship grabbed two goals in each half as the Terras cruised to the result that sees them seven points clear with four games remaining.

Goodship is now just two strikes from equalling his 38 league goal haul from last season, but he says the three points are the main thing.

Goodship said: “I keep tally of what I have got and people tell me but I am not really looking to that.

“Obviously the main goal is to go up and to win the league and we have put ourselves in a really strong position to do that and the fact that I have scored a few goals along the way makes it even better for me.

“But like I said the main thing was the three points and a step closer to our target.”

The Terras were against the relegated Swans, who have avoided defeat just four times in the league so far this season, but Goodship admits it can be a lose, lose situation.

“Sometimes it can be a bit of a lose, lose situation because if you lose it is terrible but if you win you were expected to win anyway so we just had to come in, be professional and that is what we have done.

“It was a good day all round. Obviously the main aim was to come in and get the three points and we have done that and got a clean sheet along the way.”

Goodship admitted Weymouth were “a bit sloppy” towards the end of the first half, with the Terras unable to craft a bigger lead than the 2-0 that they had, with Goodship also missing some chances.

Goodship, discussing the end of the first half, said: “I have got high standards for myself and I want to score every time I get a chance.

“We got a bit sloppy towards the end of the half, took our foot off the gas a bit and the manager reiterated that to us at half-time that we need to go out and start fast and see the game off because all it takes is one goal and they would be back in it so luckily we were able to do that.”
