WEYMOUTH chairman Ian White praised the club’s ‘brilliant’ fans, as he discussed Weymouth’s bid for the Buildbase £100k ‘Transfer Deal’ product bursary.

The FA Trophy and FA Vase sponsor is giving two more clubs taking part in the competitions this season the chance to transform their facilities through £25,000 worth of building materials each.

Weymouth fans can help the club’s bid by registering their support online, which will go towards improving the disabled access at the Bob Lucas Stadium if the Terras win, but if not the club would fund it themselves.

White said: “The fans are brilliant, they always have been, always will be. They have stuck by us and hopefully on the pitch we are giving them what they deserve. It has been a bit of a wait, and I am one of those supporters, I have been here 22 years and I love every second of it and to see what is happening at the club at the moment is just great.

“After some not great times in the past, at long last we are managing to see the quite big piece of light at the end of the tunnel, which is really, really pleasing but the fans have always been there.”

White added: “I think that is one of the biggest things about the club, what ever we have tried to do or what ever we have done they are always there. The support, both home and away is just tremendous.

“Things like this are good examples, of course there is the Wessex Fantasy Football. I can tell you now they have given the club 25 grand for the budget this season which is a great effort.

“It just shows how dedicated they are and how much the club means to them which is really great.”

The club with most online votes will automatically go through to pitching their renovation plans to Buildbase and the FA at Wembley Stadium, along with five other finalists.

White added: “This is definitely an area that we want to do some work on, to make the ground more accessible. We have got more and more of our disabled supporters that want to come and watch us so it is important to give them the facilities that they deserve so they can enjoy football at the Bob Lucas Stadium pretty easily.”
