WEYMOUTH manager Mark Molesley says there ‘is no bigger’ carrot for his side ahead of potentially sealing the Evo-Stik Southern Premier South title at home against Chesham United on Saturday.

A win, coupled with Taunton Town not beating Hendon, will see the Terras crowned champions in front of their home supporters.

Long-time title rivals the Met Police lost on Saturday to Swindon Supermarine, and thus a win for the Terras, regardless of the Met’s result at the weekend, takes the Police out of title contention.

Molesley said: “It would be great, there is no bigger carrot for us on Saturday.

“Like I said, it gives plenty of motivation this week to train hard and put a few things right and arrive a bit sharper than we were (against Beaconsfield) on Saturday.”

Weymouth’s first opportunity to seal the title came on Saturday against Beaconsfield Town, but Taunton Town beat Kings Langley to ensure the title could not have been sealed even if the Terras had not fallen to a 1-0 defeat to the Rams at the weekend.

Should Weymouth beat Chesham but Taunton also win at Hendon, then victory for the Terras at Poole two days later will seal the victory regardless of Taunton’s result on the same day.

It was a frustrating day against Beaconsfield, with Charlie Losasso’s free-kick proving the difference between the two teams.

Josh Wakefield appeared to have an angry reaction to being substituted after 78 minutes, with Cameron Murray taking his place, but Molesley defended him, saying that he does not want his players to be happy coming off.

Molesley said: “I think he was just frustrated. The game was frustrating who isn’t frustrated in that game, we have had penalty misses, decisions go against us, missing chances – emotions are high. There is a lot on it.

“Wakefield has shown a great attitude and I do not want my players happy to be coming off but it was not anything, I think he was just frustrated with how the game as gone as a whole as opposed to anything else.”
