Mark Molesley says that Weymouth will be working hard to make sure that it is their day on Saturday, writes Ryan Asman.

A win (or equalling/bettering Taunton Town’s result) at home to Farnborough would secure the Southern League Premier South title for the Terras.

Ex-Terra Matt Buse’s late goal at Taunton on Monday meant that the title is now due to go down to the wire and will be settled on the final day of the season.

Weymouth’s draw at Poole Town means that the Terras’ lead now stands at one point and with a superior goal difference.

The Terras boss doesn’t seem to be showing any signs of getting carried away yet and called for his players to remain focussed.

Speaking to theterras.com Molesley said, “We’ll be resting the boys down this week and then getting them back in for training Thursday, and then getting ready for another massive game for the football club.

“As a manager and as players we just have to remain focussed on what we’re trying to do and win the football game.”

The title looked to be going Weymouth’s way on Monday with Weymouth drawing and Merthyr Town taking a two-goal lead at Taunton, but a dramatic fightback from the Peacocks meant that they are still in with a shot of the title.

When asked about hearing the Weymouth fans’ reaction to the goals at Taunton, Molesley said, “It’s all part of the drama. Everybody is getting excited and you can’t help but get drawn into it a little bit when you hear Merthyr are winning 2-0 and all of a sudden a draw is a good result to get us the title. But then how football changes quickly.

“Maybe when the score-line meant a draw was enough you manage the game a little bit differently.

“It wasn’t to be for us, it wasn’t our day but we’ll be working as hard as we can to make sure it is next Saturday.”

Molesley went on to say that his team should take confidence in their record this season, but dismissed any notion that Farnborough will have nothing to play for.

“These boys have shown that they’re more than good enough to get three points at home.” Molesley added. “Farnborough is another real tough test, another team who have played very well this season, they have beaten us already this year.

“It’s another tough game, as Chesham have proved, and so did Beaconsfield, that mid-table teams that have nothing to play for are tricky at times.

“We’ll take on the challenge, we need to focus on ourselves and work hard and make sure it’s our day on Saturday.”

The Terras boss went on to say that his side have earnt the opportunity they have this Saturday.

It has been an impressive season for Weymouth picking up 24 wins and succumbing to just the 6 defeats, as well as scoring 93 goals along the way and boasting the strongest defence in the league, has meant that securing the title is in their hands on the last day.

“We have earnt the right to have a chance to win it again.” Said Molesley. “Our performances have put us top of tree and we are still there. We just need to work hard, fight hard and there’s no bigger carrot at the end of it.

“I think there is some frustration from the position we were in but we can’t let that frustration get in the way, we have to use that as fuel for our fire and push forward to the next game.”
