MARK Molesley was pleased with defender Sam Sherring’s reaction, as he atoned for an early mistake to make several crucial blocks during the 1-1 draw with Poole Town on Monday.
Sherring’s early mistake, a misplaced pass, led to Corby Moore firing in an equaliser for the Dolphins, after Calvin Brooks had put the Terras ahead within the first 15 seconds of the game.
When asked if he was pleased with Sherring’s reaction, Molesley said: “Definitely, he played a pass, it was not a big mistake from us, we gave the ball away cheaply and it was not just his, when we score we score together and when we concede we concede together, it was a culmination of things that went wrong with that goal, it was not just one stand-out mistake from anyone.
“He reacted really well, he is a good defender and I expect him to.”
Sherring’s recovery was impressive, with numerous crucial blocks made to preserve parity, as Poole had several golden chances go begging or blocked away to safety.
The Terras now face a nail-biting final day, where they must beat Farnborough to guarantee the title, with Taunton Town one point behind Weymouth.
Molesley feels a draw was a fair result at Poole but says his side will move on.
Molesley said: “On reflection it probably was a fair result.
“With their set pieces they were always a danger and we have had to defend well.
“The disappointing thing is that we got ourselves ahead, and we gave a goal away again from a mistake which is always disappointing but it is one we will learn from and one we will move on from.
“These boys have shown that they are more than good enough to get three points at home.”
The second half saw the atmosphere respond very audibly to the events in Somerset.
Merthyr took a 2-0 lead against Taunton after 68 minutes, before Taunton made the comeback and scored a late winner to again narrow the gap on the Terras.
