Biography: McCarthy is equally at home playing as a centre-back or a holding midfielder.
McCarthy captained Weymouth to the 2018/19 Southern League title.
McCarthy was named in the Vanarama team of the week twice in September 2019 for his performances against Welling United and Concord Rangers. He was named in the team of the week for the third time after his brace against Braintree Town in October 2019.
In January 2020, McCarthy was voted as Weymouth’s player of the month.
Jake has had an extensive career at step one and step two, playing over 150 times in the National League South and making almost 50 appearances in the National League for Weymouth and Havant and Waterlooville.
‘Macca’ joined Poole Town 2024/25 campaign after an impressive season in the National League South with the Hawks, making 41 appearances and scoring four goals.
He started his career as a youngster at AFC Bournemouth and had a loan spell at Maidstone United before moving to Weymouth in 2017.
After making 182 appearances for Weymouth and scoring 29 goals in a period where he captained the side to two promotions and won three trophies; he decided to turn down a new contract at the Terras and subsequently moved to Havant & Waterlooville.
In his time at Havant, McCarthy made 120 appearances and scored 21 goals. He stood out amongst the rest for his technical ability and his defensive work-rate, not to mention his goal-scoring ability from long range!
In November 2024 Jake returned to the Bob Lucas Stadium from Poole Town.
