Simon Browne hopes he is still a Weymouth player next season.
The stalwart left back is currently pondering a fresh one-year deal to stay at the Wessex Stadium.
The former Salisbury City star admits talks with Terras chairman Ian Ridley on his future have been `constructive’.
But the 32-year-old, who has been linked with a move to join brother Alex at Dorchester Town, says there is still some work to be done before he commits to Weymouth.
He told Echosport: “I’ve had six great seasons with the club and have loved pretty much every minute of it.
“It was nice to be offered the new contract because that shows Steve Calridge and the board feel I can do a good job for the team.
“My situation is that I’d be more than happy to stay with Weymouth and the talks between me, Steve and Mr Ridley have been really constructive.
“Obviously, I’m keen to get my future sorted as soon as possible and clearly from the club’s point of view I guess they also would prefer to get things settled quickly.
“But I want to make sure the deal is exactly right and it’s fair to say a few things still need to be sorted out at the moment. I’m confident that will be done in the not too distant future and hopefully, I’ll still be a Weymouth player next season.”
Free agent Browne, who is in his second spell with the Terras, said he was yet to talk to any other club apart from Weymouth.
“I know there has been some talk about me joining Alex up at Dorchester,” he said.
“But I’m in talks with Weymouth and I won’t talk to any other club until my situation here in resolved.
“As I said earlier, I’m fairly confident we’ll come to an agreement shortly which will put a stop to all the talk.”
The no-nonsense defender, who first played for Weymouth as a 15-year-old, praised new chief executive Martyn Harrison after the Terras received a major investment from the hotelier last week.
“The fact major London businessmen like Martyn are prepared to invest a lot of money in the club shows just how much we have moved forward,” Browne said.
“This investment is fantastic news for the club and finally gives us some financial stability after years in the doldrums.
“The club is attracting businesses and investment from a number of areas which can only benefit the playing side of the club.
“Mr Ridley has really worked wonders in a short space of time and it is an exciting time to be a Weymouth player.”
