TONY Lee says Weymouth are a sleeping giant that are starting to wake up as the Terras’ new recruit looks ahead to getting ready for pre-season.

Lee completed his move from AFC Totton and played against Weymouth briefly last season during the 1-0 win at Totton in the BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup.

Lee said: “Weymouth are one of the biggest clubs in non-League at the moment.

“They have been for the last 10 years, they are a sleeping giant and they are starting to wake up and I think after last season, getting 97 points would have won you the Southern Premier probably for the last 10 years.

“I think they will only kick on and be better this year is what attracted me to the club.”

The forward also admits he is relieved to have completed his move early, as he said: “To get it all done early on I think is the best bit so now I can sit back, relax for a bit then in the next week or so start working hard to get ready for pre-season.”

When asked about his experience playing against Weymouth last season, Lee said: “I think Louis Langdon (AFC Totton manager) was trying to give some of the boys some minutes and he brought me on and I played in the pocket, in the number 10 just off the striker and I enjoyed it. There was so much time for me in that role for me to attack and not really worry about defensive issues.”

Terras’ director of football Paul Maitland has praised Lee for giving them extra options, as he is able to play in a range of positions.

Lee said: “I just enjoy playing football, no matter what position, I just enjoy playing football. If it is at right- back, I played half a season at right-back at Whitehawk and really enjoyed it. I played out wide a few times for clubs that I have been at and played up front for most of it scoring goals.”

When I was at Eastleigh I got sent out on loan twice to Dorchester and in the time it was good move for me to help me get into the Southern League which at the time I was looking to do and it gave me 10 or 15 games at that level before moving on.

Lee has twice been on loan at Dorchester and when asked about his time there, he said: “I really enjoyed my time there but now it is a permanent move to Weymouth, it is time to forget everything that happened there and try and help Weymouth push on.”
